Genesis Care Centre
The GCC step down palliative care facility was established in 2005 by the Norwegian Settlers Church in response to the devastating effects of the HIV/AIDS & TB pandemic on the local UGU District. It has two wards of 20 beds each and provides medical care and support to patients with HIV/AIDS, TB, as well as Cancer & Strokes.
The Care Centre provides nursing, physical, spiritual, psycho-social and emotional care for the patients 24 hours a day. The percentage of patients who get well enough to go home to their families and communities has increased from 20% through to 48% and continues to grow.
We were accredited in 2009 by the Kwazulu Natal Department of Health as a Medical HIV/AIDS Counselling and Testing (HCT) site. The HCT Team encourages people to gain knowledge of their status, to empower them to cope better with the emotional challenges associated with HIV/AIDS and its resultant infections.
Our Rehabilitation programme involves different therapies for the patients and achieves a high level of recovery for patients. Therapeutic activities include Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Beadwork activities with professional and general volunteers, committed to assisting patients in their recovery.
The Management and Staff are committed to achieving service excellence while maintaining quality service at community level and are in an ideal position to implement new programmes that draw alongside, empower and uplift people and communities that are challenged daily by poverty, illness.
