Oribi Bible Camp
Oribi Bible Camp consists of 5 dormitories that can sleep +/- 80 people; 2 self-contained cottages that can sleep 8 people each and with a squeeze, maybe more. Then there are 2 rooms that sleep 2 each with their own bathroom and 2 units that sleep 6 each with their own bathrooms.
There is a fully functional kitchen with fridges, freezers, gas stove, electric stove, all utensils, plates, etc. The Dining Room has tressle tables with benches and there are a good amount of plastic chairs.
Activities – there are soccer posts, a volley ball court with net; basket ball board and mini gym. There is a prayer walk and other walks to the falls and you can always walk in the Gorge itself.
The type of camps we have are mixed. We have a woman’s camp of 136 people who range between 50 and 80 years of age. They come to learn how to do container farming. School children come to learn about HIV and anti-retroviral drugs. Teenagers come to learn about drugs and alcohol abuse. Young women, who have been abandoned by their mothers and turn to prostitution, drugs and alcohol and as a result, have been raped, come to the camp. They have been in jail where they have been threatened and bullied. They come to the camp for counseling and have found a way to talk about their experience and to release it from their hearts. People come to the camp to feel the Lord’s presence and to draw closer to Him. We have had some very powerful prayer sessions.
Fasting, with the longest so far being 21 days, with just water and the Lord. Many come to the camp to fast just for a weekend, to clear their heads and focus on things they need to pray for.
