The Music Academy
Purpose
To give young people the opportunity to learn an instrument, develop their talent, express themselves in a creative, music fashion, while learning about the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Music is universally loved by all people, and especially young people. Learning an instrument is a way of bringing youth together to make a joyful noise, as well as provide an alternative activity for those youth who may not have a safe place to go after school is out.
The academy currently offers lessons in guitar. These occur at three different places, namely at Norwegian Settlers Church, at the Genesis Murchison Community Centre, and at the Merlewood community hall. These are conducted by Trevor Downham and Jason Price, and many students have learnt guitar since its inception in 2008.
We hope to see great musicians be developed with a heart for God, who will in turn encourage others musically and develop our local music scene. We have already seen success as this area, as some of the students have come to join the youth music team at Norwegian Settlers Church!
“How blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! O Lord, they walk in the light of your countenance.” (Psalm 89:15)
The academy plans to introduce keyboard training, drum lessons and choir training in the near future. This being said, and because it is an outreach program, it is continuously in need of all types of musical instruments; please assist us to reach the youth through music by donating unwanted instruments to Genesis.

In Loving Memory of Sarah Nesbitt
Sarah was one of the most talented amazing young people who could come into your life. She had a passion for music which she recognized as a God given talent and she shared it freely with the children and youth in the rural areas of Port Shepstone in South Africa.
Though a hugely talented musician, music was not her first love. That belonged to Jesus Christ. Sarah was recently called home after 27 years on this earth. The accompanying Hillsong Church song used in this video Soon, could not have been a more appropriate tribute for Sarah, herself a student of Hillsong. Sarah has gone to the place He has prepared for her, has been made like Him, now see's Him with unveiled face...and her soul is satisfied. Though she had not yet seen Him here on earth, her heart knew Him well and now she is in His presence.
The quotes included in this tribute were taken from messages friends had left on Sarah's Facebook wall shortly after she died.... Though I did not ask your permission, I trust I have not acted disapprovingly by means of their inclusion. Sarah.... we already miss you... but find comfort in the love of Jesus and the knowledge that you are with the One you love...
